CLEVELAND, Ga. (Dec. 15, 2021) - On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team competed against University of the Virgin Islands, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Lady Bears fell to a tough second half (80-60), leaving their record to fall 7-6, while the Buccaneers rose to 7-4.

PLAY BY PLAYÂ
In the first quarter, both teams were evenly matched with the Buccaneers first to score, but a three pointer from
Natalie Nixon quickly put TMU on the board. Both teams continued to keep the score close until an
Alysee Dobbs three pointer brought the Lady Bears within one. A layup from
Camilla Callihan kept the lead in range, but TMU ended 16-20 to conclude the quarter. Dobbs took a shot in the paint to get the second quarter started, followed by a layup from
Quan Holton. A layup from
Re'Tavia Floyd brought the score even, with a free throw giving the Lady Bears their first lead. A shot at the three-point arc for Floyd gave TMU a two point advantage. A layup from Holton gave TMU their biggest deficit of the game, ultimately leaving the Lady Bears on top going at the half (37-32).
In the third quarter, both teams continued to be aggressive, but the Buccaneers recaptured the lead. Layups from Callihan and Dobbs gave TMU the advantage, followed by back to back three pointers from Floyd to put the Lady Bears up 54-45. In the final quarter, the Lady Bears stumbled as the Buccaneers drained multiple three pointers. Shots from
Sydnie Smith and Floyd were ultimately not enough, leaving the Lady Bears to fall 60-80.
LEADERSÂ
Floyd led the way offensively with 23 points, going 7-19 within the paint and draining five shots from behind the three-point arc. Holton led the way defensively with 11 rebounds, adding seven points of her own, going 3-8 from within the paint. Dobbs tallied nine points, being perfect from behind the three-point line. Callihan contributed six points, going 2-2 at the free throw line. Smith had a total of five points, going 3-4 at the free throw line, and added four rebounds.
