Men's basketball stumbles against Falcons

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Dec. 14, 2021) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted Florida College inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Bears played with resilience, but fell 50-61, declining to a record of 7-5, 5-4 AAC, while the Falcons rose to 13-1, 1-0 CAC. 
 
PLAY BY PLAY 
In the first half, the Falcons came to play and hit the course full force. Enocka Franky had a free throw to give the Bears their first point of the game. A jumper from Franky and CJ Brown started to slim the gap, but the Falcons were still ahead. Shots from behind the three point arc from Brown and EJ Smith cut the gap to 11. Two more three pointers and a layup from Smith brought the Bears within two of the Falcons. A shot in the paint from Brown gave TMU the advantage. The Falcons were able to strike back, leaving the Bears down 32-34 going into the half.  
 
In the second half, both teams had stellar defense, remaining scoreless until the 15th minute. Kafunba Toure got it started for the Bears with a jumper in the paint. A foul on Franky led to two successful free throws, followed by a layup in the paint. A Smith three pointer brought TMU within four, but the Falcons were not giving up. A three pointer and a jumper in the paint from Brent Kelly seemed to bring hope, but was ultimately not enough as the Falcons broke away, leaving the Bears down 61-50. 
 
LEADERS 
Most notable, Franky set the career school record for total rebounds with 720 after tallying a total of six rebounds in today's game. Smith led the way offensively with 15 points, going 1-2 at the free throw line and sinking four shots from behind the three point arc. Brown tallied 12 points, going 5-7 from within the paint, and adding four rebounds. Kelly had eight points, going 2-3 from behind the three point arc, and seven rebounds. Toure contributed five points, going 2-4 from within the paint, and tallying five rebounds. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Bears remain inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena to face University of the Virgin Islands on Wednesday, December 15, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
