CLEVELAND, Ga (Dec. 11, 2021) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Johnson University, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Lady Bears winning streak increased to two after a 66-56 victory over the Royals. TMU's record improved to 6-5, 4-5 AAC, while the Royals fell to 1-9, 1-8 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
In the first quarter, both teams were quick to score, battling for the lead. A layup from Jessica Jackson and a three pointer from Re'Tavia Floyd gave TMU an advantage over the Royals. A layup from Sydnie Smith sparked a rally, followed with an Alysee Dobbs layup and free throw. The Lady Bears entered the second quarter with a 17-11 lead. Back-to-back three pointers from Floyd and Sydney Rumble created a larger deficit, followed with a jumper in the paint from Quan Holton and a shot from behind the three point arc from Camilla Callihan gave TMU a seven point lead going into halftime (30-23).
The third quarter saw the Lady Bears persistence with a Natalie Nixon three pointer and shot in the paint from Callihan. A Floyd jumper added to the score to bring the Lady Bears up 44-38 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, TMU finished strong with five straight points from Hilton to give the Lady Bears a 10 point gap from the Royals. Multiple fouls on Callihan led to five points accumulated at the free throw line, ultimately resulting in a Lady Bear 66-56 victory.
LEADERS
Floyd led the way offensively with 15 points on the evening, going 4-9 from behind the three point line. Callihan picked up 14 points of her own, going 4-7 from within the paint, and five rebounds. Holton racked up nine points, going 1-2 at the free throw line and 4-8 from within the paint, and six rebounds. Dobbs led defensively with seven rebounds and eight points, going 3-5 from the free throw line. Nixon had six points and two rebounds on the evening.
