CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 6, 2021) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team advanced to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals, after beating AAC opponent, Columbia College, with a final score of 9-0. The Lady Bears improved to 17-2, 13-1 AAC, while Columbia fell to a final season record of 11-8, 8-6 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears worked quick from the start, striking first with an Ashleigh Smitherman penalty kick goal at the two-minute mark (1-0). The second goal came shortly after in the fifth minute, when a ball from Kristin Beasley found the foot of Smitherman to make the score 2-0. Makenzie Hoyt increased the score to 3-0, with an assist from Eliska Dvorakova. The Lady Bears continued to find success in the 31st minute, with a goal from Amayia Lukie, assisted by Ashley Johnson (4-0).
TMU did not let up, continuing to dominate into the second period. In the first three minutes, Smitherman found the back of the net off an assist from Beasley (5-0). In the 54th minute, Ruffa Meger added to TMU's score, off a Hannah Logue assist (6-0). Dvorakova recorded three consecutive goals, with the first in the 66th minute (7-0), the second assisted by Kendra Wilbert in the 79th minute (8-0) and the third in the 89th minute (9-0). The Lady Bears remained resilient through the entire half, ultimately securing the with a with a dominating final score of 9-0.
LEADERS
The Lady Bears recorded 34 shots, 18 on goal, opposed to Columbia's five shots, two on goal.
Dvorakova led the way with three goals, 11 shots, five on goal and one assist, while Smitherman had three goals, six shots, four on goal. Recording one goal apiece was Hoyt, Meger and Lukie. Beasley came in clutch with two assists, followed by Logue, Johnson and Wilbert who added an assist apiece.
Goal Keepers Hope Frady and Emelie Taylor individually recorded a save on the day.
