Box Score WALESKA, Ga. (Nov. 13, 2021) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer competed in the AAC Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon, where they faced No. 1 Reinhardt University. TMU finished runner-up in the tournament after battling the Eagles to a final score of 3-2, along with punching their ticket to the NAIA National Championships.
The Eagles rose to a season record of 17-2, 14-0 AAC, while the Lady Bears sit at a season record of 18-3, 13-1 AAC, as they head into the NAIA Opening Round.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Eagles were quick to score in the first 16 minutes of play (0-1), but the Lady Bears retaliated with a shot from Eliska Dvorakova that missed just wide, followed by an earned corner kick. The Eagles struck again with their second goal in the 25th minute (0-2), with the Lady Bears unable to respond at the half.
In the second period, Amayia Lukie had a shot on goal within the first minute of regulation, but the Eagles followed up with their third and final goal in the 50th minute (0-3). The Lady Bears showed their grit and determination with a shot from Lukie, assisted by Lauren Bergevine, to score the first goal of the day for the Lady Bears (1-3). Smitherman took another shot at the goal, followed by Brianna Hernandez, and in the 71st minute, Sydney League came in clutch with the second goal for TMU(2-3). Ultimately, a corner kick from Dvorakova was the Lady Bears final opportunity, leaving TMU just shy of victory with a score of 2-3.
LEADERS
League and Lukie led the way with two shots, two on goal and one goal apiece. Hannah Logue also had two shots, one on goal. Hernandez and Smitherman followed with two shots of their own. Most notable, goalie Emelie Taylor had seven goal saves on the day.
