Bears collect big AAC win over Buffaloes

CLEVELAND, Ga. (November 13, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Milligan University, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday. TMU defeated the Buffaloes and collected a big AAC win with a score of 80-76. The Bears improved to a record of 4-1, 2-1 AAC, while the Buffaloes fell 0-5, 0-4 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY 

In the first half, the Bears started with two successful free throws from Kafunba Toure. The Buffaloes quickly responded, but the Bears retaliated with shots in the paint from Brent Kelly and Toure. A jumper from KJ Riley and Enocka Franky gave the Bears a large lead, while the Buffaloes were able to recapture the lead. A layup from Franky and a jumper from Kelly gave the Bears the lead going into the second half (34-29).

In the second half, Toure started with a dunk to give the Bears the fire they needed. A layup from EJ Smith and a jumper from Toure continued to grow TMU's lead. The Buffaloes were never able to recapture the lead, and a three pointer from Smith ultimately sealed the deal, giving the Bears an 80-76 victory.

LEADERS

Most notably, Franky had a double-double on the evening recording 21 points and 13 rebounds, going 10-16 in the paint. Smith led the Bears with 22 points on the evening, with four shots from behind the three point line and six steals. Toure had 12 points, eight rebounds and five shots in the paint. Kelly had 10 points and six assists on the evening. Cory Seitz had six points, all in the paint, with four rebounds of his own.

UP NEXT

The Bears will host AAC opponent, Union College, on Wednesday, Nov. 17, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m.
