Men’s basketball collects first AAC victory at KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. (November 11, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled on Thursday to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Kentucky Christian University, where TMU was capable of clinching the win, with a final score of 59-56. The Bears record improved to 3-1, 1-1 AAC, while the Knights fell to 1-3, 1-2 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY 

In the first half, the Bears were the first to score with a layup from CJ Brown. TMU continued to add to their lead with shots in the paint from Cory Seitz, Brent Kelly and EJ Smith. The Knights managed to gain momentum, but a good free throw from KJ Riley and a shot in the paint from Brown brought the Bears within margins. The Bears went into halftime down 25-32.

In the second half, a three pointer from Bryant and a free throw from Kafunba Toure brought TMU within one point of the Knights. Back-to-back three pointers from Bryant and Smith gave the Bears a comfortable lead. Two shots in the paint from Toure increased the deficit. The Knights continued to fight back, but the Bears were persistent with a shot in the paint from Kelly and Smith. A jumper from Franky ultimately sealed the deal, giving the Bears a 59-56 victory over the Knights.

LEADERS

Kelly led the way with 16 points, going 2-2 from behind the three point arc and 2-4 from the free throw line. Smith followed with seven points, three rebounds and three shots in the paint. Toure had seven points and an impressive 14 rebounds. Franky followed with seven points and 10 rebounds of his own. Bryant had seven points, with three shots in the paint and one from behind the three point line.

UP NEXT

The Bears return home on Saturday, Nov. 13, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, to face AAC opponent Milligan University, with a tipoff set for 4:00 p.m.
