Bears secure conference win over KCU, take 37 shots

GRAYSON, Ky. (October 2, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled Saturday to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Kentucky Christian University, where the Bears collected their second conference win with a dominating score of 10-0. TMU rose to a record of 3-4-2, 2-4 AAC, while the Knights fell to a record of 0-6, 0-4 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Bears were hot from the start, with Oscar Brennan scoring the first goal of the afternoon in the 4th minute (1-0). TMU added to their lead in the 20th minute with a Callum Smith goal, assisted by Marco Vernazza (2-0). The final goal of the first period came in the 44th minute from Justin Hicks, who was assisted by Jose Ventura (3-0). In the 49th minute of the second half, Smith scored once again, off a ball from Hebert Lima (4-0). A quick turnaround in the 50th minute had Javier Morales scoring a goal (5-0), followed by Vernazza scoring in the 52nd minute. The Bears ultimately ended up scoring their final goal in the 85th minute, from Lima, to secure their 10-0 victory over the Knights.
 
LEADERS
Most notable, the Bears outshot the Knights with 37 shots, 25 on goal opposed to the Knights with five shots, three on goal. Chandler Bond had three goal saves to keep the Knights scoreless. Lima, Vernazza, Nour Alamri, Brennan, Daniel Martin, Hicks, Ventura and Morales each had a goal apiece. Meanwhile, Smith had two goals, six shots, four on goal. Lima, Vernazza and Walker-Patterson individually recorded a single assist, while Venture had two assists of his own.

The Bears hit the road to face AAC opponent Milligan University Wednesday, Oct. 6, with a kick-off time set for 3:00 p.m.
