CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2020) – For the first time in Truett McConnell University history, game day took place under the lights on Wednesday night. The TMU women's soccer team dominated Columbia College with a 2-0 win to improve to 3-0-1, 3-0-1 AAC on the season.
In fact, the Lady Bears held the Fighting Koalas completely shotless, while TMU look a total of 18 shots, with eight on target. The Lady Bears also earned a total of five corner kicks, while Columbia earned zero.
It only took 1 minute and 15 seconds for TMUÂ to find the back of the net. Freshman Hope Kenney found the feet of sophomore Ashleigh Smitherman to allow her to score her second career goal, immediately putting TMU out front for good (1-0). In the 18th minute, junior Sydney League dribbled directly around a Columbia defender and crossed the ball into the box through the feet of another Columbia defender and sophomore Kristin Beasley finished to give TMU a two-goal cushion the rest of the way (2-0).
Individually, Smitherman led the way with five shots, one on goal, and Kenney had four shots with two on goal. Sophomore Nadia Basto added three shots, two on goal, while sophomore Lyndsey Darden and freshman AK Navas added two apiece. Freshman Addy Galason made the start for the Lady Bears at keeper earning her third career win.
Up next, the Lady Bears are on the road for three straight road games. First on the schedule is Bryan College on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4:00 p.m. TMU returns home on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 5:00 p.m., to host Milligan College.
