KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2020) – The No. 9-seeded Truett McConnell University women's basketball team faced No. 8-seeded Milligan College on Wednesday in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament. The Lady Bears, however, fell 71-51 to complete their 2019-20 campaign at 14-16, 9-15 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After sophomore Camilla Howell put the Lady Bears behind by one with 14 seconds to go in the first quarter (16-17), Milligan drained a 3-pointer in the final seconds to earn a four-point lead heading into the second quarter (16-20). It only took four minutes for TMU to tie back up (21-21), but the Buffs took off to lead by as much as 12 points the rest of the quarter and earned a 10-point lead to head into halftime (28-38).
The third quarter saw TMU get outscored again by a slim margin (12-18), but the Buffs rallied to lead by as much as 19 and then again by 24 in the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, TMU was ultimately unable to fully recover.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"Grateful for the opportunity to get out here," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "I think it's a good look for the program and good for this core group to see what it's like. We didn't get the result we wanted today but we will be working to get back next year and work to try and stay a few more days."
LEADERS
Three Lady Bears scored double-digits and were led by junior Sierra Kendall who had 15 points and five blocks. Sophomore Re'Tavia Floyd followed with 14 points and two assists, while Howell added 11 points.
