COLUMBIA, S.C. (Dec. 12, 2020) – In the ninth Appalachian Athletic Conference game of the season, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to face Columbia College Saturday in an AAC showdown. The Lady Bears battled the entire game but unfortunately suffered a loss with a final score of 69-61. The Fighting Koalas rose to a record of 6-3, 6-3 AAC, while TMU fell to a record of 5-7, 2-7 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears came out strong in the first quarter, able to hit the scoreboard first from two good free throws from Sierra Kendall, followed by a Kendall shot in the paint (4-0). Columbia wasn't slow to respond as they took the lead from an 11-point run (4-11), able to gain enough momentum to secure the lead into the second quarter (11-15). A Brenna Tate 3-pointer put the game at a three-point difference (16-19), but the Fighting Koalas offense was resilient, able to keep the lead at the half (23-31).
Columbia's speed increased in the third, continuing to put pressure on TMU's defense (37-40). The Lady Bears retaliated in the fourth by outshooting the Fighting Koalas (24-20). The Lady Bears added pressure of their own in the last minute from a good 2-pointer and shot in the paint from Re'Tavia Floyd (59-67), followed by a shot in the paint from Camilla Howell, ultimately not enough with a final score of 61-69.
BY THE NUMBERS
Kendall led the Lady Bears with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds, along with a single assist and block. Floyd followed with 14 points, while also going six for eight at the free throw line and two steals. Tate tallied 11 points and one steal, followed by junior Jessica Jackson who had eight points with seven rebounds and two steals. Junior Aisya Davis individually had seven points and Howell had three points.
