Lady Bears extend win streak to ten

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 4, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team continue to dominate in Appalachian Athletic Conference play by extending their win streak to 10 against Point University Wednesday with a final score of 3-1. TMU improved to 10-0-1, 10-0-1 AAC, while the Skyhawks fell to 4-4-1, 4-4-1 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY

The Lady Bears dominated on offense right at the start by taking three shots, one on goal, in the first seven minutes of period one. In the 21st minute, TMU earned the first goal of the game off a ball knocked in by one of the Skyhawks own players (1-0). The Lady Bears followed with five more shots and earned two corner kicks, which resulted in sophomore Ashleigh Smitherman finding the back of the net in the 37th minute with an assist by senior Tori Wilson (2-0). Point was able to score a goal of their own in the 42nd minute, which is the first goal on the Lady Bears scored in nine games (2-1).

The second half showed TMU coming out hot with 15 shots with two corner kicks, opposed to the Skyhawks, who managed to only take two shots and earn one corner kick. The third and final goal of the game came from Smitherman with an assist by sophomore Madison Wright in the 77th minute, making the final score 3-1.

LEADERS

Wright led the Lady Bears with six shots on goal and one assist, followed by Smitherman who had three shots on goal and two goals. Junior Sydney League individually had four shots on goals, while sophomore Natalie Alamri had three shots on goal. In addition, sophomores Lyndsey Darden, Lauren Bergevine and Kristin Beasley had two shots. Beasley tallied two on goal and Bergevine tallied one on goal, followed by Wilson who added a shot and assist of her own. Freshman goalie Addy Galason had three saves on the day, totaling 26 on the season.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears return to the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex, Saturday, Nov. 7, to face Bluefield College with kickoff of 12:00 p.m.
