Box Score DAYTON, Tenn. (Oct. 3, 2020) – After 110 minutes of play, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team came up with an Appalachian Athletic Conference 1-1 draw at Bryan College University on Saturday afternoon. Both teams, in fact, moved to an overall season record of 0-3-1.
"Really happy with the boys' performance on the day," Head Coach
Scott Borchers said. "They adapted well and were effective. A lot of positives to take away from the match. The boys fought hard for the result and for a young team, that is great. Fantastic response after Wednesday's match."
It only took two minutes for Bryan to get out front (0-1), however, freshman
Daniel Martin matched it when he picked the pocket of the Bryan midfielder and shifted the ball past the final Bryan defender to find the back of the net for the Bears in the 18th minute (1-1).
TMU took four more shots, in comparison to Bryan's six, in the second half but neither team was capable of scoring again, which sent the game into overtime. Most notable, junior
David Windmiller made an impressive penalty kick save in the 54th minute to keep the Lions scoreless. Three more shots for the Bears proved not enough in the 20 minutes of overtime, which led to the Bears' first tie of the season.
Individually,
Dean Khan led the way with four shots, one on target, and
Ivan Serubiri,
Grant Farrell, Martin,
Trevor Fick,
Tristan Cheves,
Chris Clark and
Justin Hicks added one shot apiece. Windmiller recorded a total of four saves on the day.
Up next, the Bears are on the road for two more AAC games before their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7:00 p.m., when they host Milligan College.
