Bears unable to recover, lose at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 9, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team found themselves with a 14-point deficit at halftime that they were unable to fully recover from at Milligan College on Thursday evening. The Bears (6-11, 2-10 AAC) fell 84-68 to the Buffaloes (9-6, 8-4 AAC), who are currently tied for third in the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Enocka Franky opened up the game with two straight buckets in the paint (4-0) but the Buffs eventually got out front by double-digits and didn't allow the Bears to get within single digits the rest of the way. Although Milligan led by as much as 18 points with 4:24 to go in the first half, Cristian Colon hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to put TMU behind by 14 at the half (33-47).
 
Despite a slow start, TMU went on in the second half to only get outscored by two points (35-37). The Buffs led by as much as 21 points in the final 20 minutes of regulation and the closest the Bears got was by 12 points (68-80) with 42 seconds to go. Nonetheless, TMU was unable to fully recover from the first half hole.
 
Truett's bench outscored Milligan's by 21 (34-13), and the Bears were capable of outscoring the Buffs by two points in the paint (36-34).
 
LEADERS
Franky led the Bears with 12 points in 16 minutes of play. Franky also had six rebounds and two steals. Antonio Bonilla followed with 11 points off the bench, while Darius Thrower and Colon had eight points apiece. Marlon Allen led with nine rebounds. Xavier Latore and Brent Kelly led with three steals apiece.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 2:00 p.m., to host Kentucky Christian University.
