ATHENS, Tenn. (Jan. 30, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to Tennessee Wesleyan University on Thursday evening to face the Bulldogs for the second time this season. The Bears were unable to pull off the win (89-82), which put them at 6-17, 2-16 AAC on the year. Last time they met, TWU won 81-68 inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Darius Thrower drained a 3-pointer to spark the 7-0 scoring run that led to TMU's largest lead of the first half (17-14). Although the score was tied three more times the rest of first half, the Bulldogs got out front by as much as 11 points (31-42) and had an eight-point cushion heading into halftime (36-44).
Seven minutes into the second half, the Bears got within four (52-56) but it was only up from there for the Bulldogs. With 8:41 to go in regulation, TWU possessed an 18-point lead (55-73) but the Bears eventually rallied to get back within single digits in the final minute of the game. However, the Bulldogs' free throws ultimately proved to be the different in the end.
LEADERS
Two Bears recorded double-doubles; sophomore Enocka Franky scored 28 and had 12 rebounds, while freshman Marlon Allen had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Thrower added 17 points, including 5-for-10 from the 3-point line. Freshman Brent Kelly scored 13 and led with seven assists. Â
