GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 3, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll, won their third straight game at Bob Jones University on Tuesday evening. The Lady Bears defeated the Bruins 2-1 to remain perfect on the year.
TMU outshot Bob Jones 20-9, with 13 on goal. The Lady Bears' first goal came in the ninth minute of the game off the feet of junior
Jessica Lanier from a pass on the wing by sophomore
Finley Brisendine (1-0). In the 35th minute, freshman
Kristin Beasley extended TMU's lead with her first collegiate goal (2-1) while fellow freshman
Madison Wright was credited her first collegiate assist. Bob Jones responded with a goal of their own two minutes later (2-1) but that was the last time either team found the back of the net the rest of the way.
Individually, Lanier led with four shots, three on goal while sophomore
Sydney Ziglar and Wright added three apiece. All three of Ziglar's shots were on target. Sophomores
Lydia Williams and
Mackenzie Taylor, and freshman
Sophia Kay, recorded two shots apiece.
Victoria Moore earned a total of five saves on the day.
Up next, the Lady Bears will host No. 3 Southeastern University on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 5:00 p.m., for their home opener.
