MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team won their second game of the season on a free kick in overtime (3-2) at Milligan College on Wednesday night to improve to 2-5-1, 1-1-1 AAC on the year. In fact, today's game is now TMU's third straight and fourth overall overtime game of the season.
Â
The Buffaloes were capable of getting up on the scoreboard first in the 38th minute but it only took three minutes for the Bears to respond with a goal of their own. Just minutes before the halftime buzzer, senior Clayton Kelly found the back of the net for the first time in his career, off a stellar pass from
Trevor Fick, to tie it back up 1 apiece.
Â
With 15 minutes remaining in regulation, the Bears managed to get out front for the first time all game. Sophomore
Javier Rodriguez sent the ball into the upper right corner of the net on a direct free kick (2-1). However, Milligan matched it two minutes later (2-2). Neither team was capable of scoring in the first overtime period but Rodriguez, once again, won the game for the Bears on another free kick (3-2).
Â
Rodriguez led the way with four shots, two on target, while Fick and Kelly each added three shots. Senior
Evan Gaffney was credited eight saves on the night.
