Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Aug. 31, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball got back on the road for Pfeiffer University to face both Pfeiffer and Ferrum College. The Lady Bears started off Saturday with a sweep over the Panthers (25-13, 25-14, 25-14) and then fell in a tightly contested match against the Pfeiffer Falcons (21-25, 25-12, 23-25, 18-25).
COACH'S COMMENTS
"The team took care of business in their first match," Head Coach Mark Corbin said. "Bethany Ross led the way with nine kills. It was a great team win. The second match was much tougher against Pfeiffer. The team fought hard, but came up short by giving up too many unforced errors. We're working through some things and making adjustments to be more consistent as a team. We had a few girls step up to help keep us in the match. Bethany had 15 kills and Harris Anne Walker added 13 while Abby Maxwell had 32 assists.
We have one more match before we jump into conference play. These preseason scrimmages and non-conference matches have really helped us see where we excel and areas we need improvement. We will take the next several days to fine tune some things and be ALL IN to start AAC play on Thursday."
FERRUM SWEEP
The Lady Bears consistently dominated the entire match winning by no less than double digits. Freshman Ranavia Neal followed Ross offensively with seven kills while Madison Curtis added six. Walker and freshman Audrey Henderson had five apiece. Maxwell was credited 27 assists and 10 digs while Hannah Lee also tallied 10 digs.
PFEIFFER LOSS IN 4
Despite dropping the first set (25-21), TMU rallied to dominate in the second set (25-12) but fell short in the third and the Falcons proved to maintain the momentum. Ross led the squad with a season high of 18 kills, just two short of her career high. Walker followed with 13 kills and Curtis added five. Maxwell recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 18 digs. Lee led with 19 digs while Abby Mumpower added 16.
The official box score and play-by-play for Saturday's games will be posted when provided.
