CLEVELAND, Ga. (Aug. 26, 2019) – Junior setter Abby Maxwell of the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team claimed the first Appalachian Athletic Conference setter of week nod of the season. This award is Maxwell's second career AAC weekly nod.
"The women's volleyball team had a great weekend of competition at the Faulkner Invitational," Head Coach Mark Corbin said. "The team made a lot of improvements and we are excited for the remainder of the season. The Bears were led by junior setter, Abby Max, who tallied 117 assists and 55 digs in our matches. Setters are usually known for being the quarterback of the offense in volleyball, but Abby led with her defensive skills as well.
Abby is a leader on the team and we are going to rely on both her defense and her ability to lead the offense this season. Her passion and determination is infectious and will help the other players on the team push themselves more. We saw some really good competition this weekend which is setting us up for success the remainder of the season."
Maxwell recorded three double-doubles at the Faulkner Invitational over the weekend averaging 8.36 assists and 3.93 digs a game. Additionally, Maxwell tallied nine kills.
Catch Maxwell and the Lady Bears in their home opener on Sept. 5, at 6:30 p.m., when they host AAC foe Columbia International University.
