LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (May 13, 2019) – The No. 2-seeded Truett McConnell University softball team came up short against No. 3-seeded LSU-Alexandria (1-0) in the NAIA opening round in the Lawrenceville Bracket at Georgia Gwinnett College on Monday.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Senior Kaitlynn Johnson led off with a single through the hole at shortstop and freshman Briley Lawson doubled to right field in the top of the second but TMU was unable to run home. Junior Liz Bunton, however, sent a ball over the head of the right fielder and was capable of running all the way to third with no outs at the top of the third but the Lady Bears were unable score again. Sophomore Karley Hobbs, on the other hand, continued to hold the Generals hitless. In fact, LSU-Alexandria didn't earn their first hit until the bottom of the sixth.
Both teams were still scoreless heading into the seventh. After the Lady Bears were held hitless and scoreless in the top half, LSU-Alexandria led off with a single and went on to win the game on a defensive wild throw (0-1).
Hobbs, the back-to-back Appalachian Athletic Conference pitcher of the year, was handed the loss after allowing just two hits, zero earned runs while also striking out three.
