LAURINBURG, N.C. (April 12, 2019) – After sweeping Thursday's doubleheader at St. Andrews University, the No. 20 Truett McConnell University baseball team fell in the series finale 9-1. The Bears fell to 25-11, 16-5 AAC on the year.

After a scoreless two 2.5 innings, the Knights recorded three runs in the bottom half of the third (0-3) and added three more over the next four innings to lead by six heading into the eighth (0-6) all the while holding the Bears hitless. Mason Gaines, however, doubled down the left field line to spark the eighth inning for TMU. Freshman Connor Bearden's sacrifice fly to center field drove home pinch runner Shane Smith for the Bears' lone run of the game (1-6).

Senior Austin Bishop was the only other Bear to get a hit when he led off with a single to left-center field in the top of the ninth.

Cason Brown made the start for TMU and was handed the loss. Brown pitched 5.2 innings and struck out six. Nick Hammonds stepped in for relief the final 2.1 innings.

Up next, the Bears are back on the road for Hiwassee College on Tuesday, April 16, at 2:00 p.m., for a nonconference doubleheader.
