CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 7, 2019) – The No. 20 Truett McConnell University softball team opened up Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a sweep over Columbia College at the TMU Softball Complex on Thursday afternoon (1-0, 2-0). The Lady Bears' pitching staff combined for a total of three hits on the day. Junior
Bethany Hyde earned her sixth win of the season in game one while reigning AAC pitcher of the year,
Karley Hobbs, was credited her ninth in game two.
GAME ONE (1-0)
A
Kathrine Kozlowski double down the left field line which drove home
Sara Sullivan in the bottom of the first to score the lone goal of the game right off the bat (1-0). The closest TMU would get to scoring again was in the bottom of the third when three Lady Bears were left on base.
Hyde pitched a complete game allowing just one hit. In addition, Hyde walked one and struck out eight.
Jaden Morrison went 2-for-2 while
Briley Lawson and Kozlowski went 1-for-2.
GAME TWO (2-0)
After a scoreless three innings, freshman
Briley Lawson's single to right-center scored
Kaitlynn Johnson to put TMU out front in the bottom of the fourth (1-0). Another Lawson single drove
Sara Sullivan across home plate to round out TMU's runs for the DH (2-0).
Hobbs had three 3-up 3-down innings (2nd, 3rd, 7th) and allowed two hits, walked one and struck out three.
The Lady Bears accounted for six hits led by Lawson who went 2-for-3. Johnson, Sullivan,
Brie Levy and
Alicia Price all connected for a hit apiece.
