CLEVELAND, Ga. (March, 5 2019) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team got up on the scoreboard first but Southern Wesleyan University ultimately came out on top (6-1) on Tuesday afternoon at the TMU Baseball Complex. The Bears dropped to 9-7, 3-0 AAC on the year while the Warriors improved to 8-9 on the year.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
A fielder's choice sent Josh Johnston across home plate for TMU's first and only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth (1-0). John Michael McRae was credited the RBI. The Warriors matched TMU's run in the top of the fifth but it was only up from there for Southern Wesleyan.
Wesleyan scored five more times throughout the rest of the game and the Bears just could not capitalize at the plate.
LEADERS
Johnston led going 2-for-4 while Austin Bishop, Patrick Overstreet, McRae and Mason McLendon all tallied a hit apiece.
Avery Hopper was handed his first loss of his freshman campaign after pitching seven innings allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out three. Nick Hammonds relieved Hopper in the eighth and ninth innings.
