FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. (Feb. 5, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University baseball traveled to NCAA DII Emmanuel College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions (4-1 overall) defeated the Bears (2-3 overall) 16-6 in a seven inning nonconference matchup.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Emmanuel immediately scored three runs in the first inning but the Bears came back even stronger. Freshman Jake Beach sparked the four-run inning with a double to deep right field. Senior Austin Bishop then doubled to left field which sent home Will Ingram and Beach. To follow, junior Josh Johnston homered which drove Bishop home to put the Bears ahead 4-3.

The Lions tied it up in the bottom of the second but connected for four more hits in the third which enabled four more runs and it was only up from there (4-8). Over the next three innings the Lions scored five more runs (4-13).

Johnston got on base with a single to center field and eventually scored on a wild pitch (5-13). Freshman Grant McDonel also singled to center field which drove home Calob Rowland for the final TMU run of the day (6-13).

LEADERS

Bishop and Johnston led the way going 2-for-3 at the plate. Both tallied two RBI's apiece as well. Jackson Meadors also had a hit.

Jacob Johns, Ryan Reagan, Tyler Pruett, Evan Gravitt and Avery Hopper all appeared on the mound for TMU. Johns was given the loss.

The Bears will host Clarke University for another nonconference series on Friday, Feb. 8, and Saturday, Feb. 9.
