CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 16, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team fell in overtime inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena to Reinhardt University to conclude their 2018-2019 campaign (112-104). The Bears ended the season with an overall record of 15-14, 9-13 AAC.
Last time the Bears and Eagles met, Reinhardt won on their home court (93-86).
COACH'S COMMENTS
"We're just tremendously disappointed in the result and the finish to the season," Head Coach Jon Yeh said. "I thought we executed in the last minute, and the ball just wouldn't go into the basket. Myles' effort was unbelievable – he has played so well down the stretch for us.
My heart goes out to our seniors. They've had fabulous careers at TMU and have represented our program so well."
FIRST HALF WIN | LATE DEFEAT
After the first five minutes of the game, the Bears led the rest of the half by as much as six points. TMU went on to lead by as many as 16 points in the second half but the Eagles came in from behind in the final minute of regulation. In fact, the Bears led by eight points with 56 seconds to go but it proved not enough.
A 3-pointer and a last second layup sent the game into overtime (94-94). Reinhardt carried over their momentum leading right off the bat and the rest of the way. The Eagles led by as many as nine points. 1:24 wasn't enough time for TMU to bounce back from a nine-point deficit to win the AAC game that would've clinched them a spot in the AAC tournament that begins Thursday, Feb. 21.
LEADERS
Sophomore Myles Monroe led with a double-double and career high of 35 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Christian Davis followed with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists. Fellow senior Filipe Goncalves and sophomore Calvin White followed with 14 points apiece. Goncavles was credited three assists and White added nine rebounds. Senior Jacob Booke rebounded eight.
Four Bears complete their seasons averaging double figures led by Davis with 14.7 points. White averaged 13.9 on the year, Monroe 12.7 and Goncalves 10.7.
The team currently ranks number five in DII in total blocks (121) and number six in total steals (262). Individually, Davis ranks fourth in steals per game (2.62) and total steals (76).
In addition, senior Goncalves led the team averaging 2.84 assists a game.
