BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 11, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to Union College, the Reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference Champions, on Wednesday evening for their third road AAC contest of the season. The visiting Bears (6-5, 2-5 AAC) fell 84-60 in regulation to the Bulldogs (8-5, 6-2 AAC), who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first nine minutes of the game saw the Bulldogs score 22 points, while holding TMU to a single bucket (2-22). After a Darius Thrower free throw and Antonio Bonilla 3-pointer, the Bears got within 13 points of Union (23-36) but the Bulldogs held an 18-point lead into halftime (23-41).
Union carried over the momentum into the second half to lead by as many as 30 points with 10:27 to go (38-68). Most notable, the Bears went on a 12-2 scoring run to get within 17 (58-75). But the reigning AAC champs managed to get back out front by 20+ and closed the game out on a 7-0 run (60-84).
The Bulldogs recorded a total of 13 3-pointers on the night, while the Bears scored 43 points in the paint and Union scored 34.
LEADERS
Enocka Franky led the Bears with an impressive double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Franky also had two blocks and a steal. Bonilla followed with 13 points and four rebounds, while Brent Kelly was credited four assists and Darius Thrower earned three.
