WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 22, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team, who is still receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll, faced The Master's University (13-5-3) in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championships Opening Round at No. 1 Keiser University on Friday afternoon. The Lady Bears (18-3, 12-1 AAC) lost in regulation to the Mustangs 2-0 to complete another historical season by TMU.
Â
"Unfortunately, it wasn't our day today," Head Coach
David McDowell said. "The girls battled all game against a tough Master's team but we came up short. Proud of the girls for how they competed today but especially proud of them for another fantastic season. We are extra grateful for our seniors,
Jasmin Lanuza and
Jessica Lanier, and now we start to look to next year to continue to get better."
Â
The Master's were capable of scoring in the seventh minute (1-0) but the Lady Bears were unable to match it with a goal of their own heading into the half. Although the Mustangs shot 16 times in the first half, the Lady Bears came back out in the second half to hold them to five shots while taking five shots themselves. Moreover, the Mustangs found the back of the net for a second time in the 51st minute and that would be the last time either team scored (2-0).
Â
Tori Wilson,
Lydia Williams,
Sydney League, Lanier and
Jennifer McCall each tallied a shot for the Lady Bears. Sophomore
Hope Foster recorded a total of six saves on the day.
