WALESKA, Ga. (Nov. 2, 2019) – The No. 6 seeded Truett McConnell University men's soccer team's 2019 season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Bears fell to the No. 3 seed, Reinhardt University, in a 3-2 decision on the road to finish the year 6-8-4, 5-3-3 AAC.
All three of Reinhardt's goals came in the first half, one of which came within the first eight minutes of the game. Despite a three-goal deficit, Javier Rodriguez cut inside the box past a Reinhardt defender to net TMU's first goal of the day in the 40th minute (1-3). In the second half, Rodriguez crossed a ball on an indirect free kick that deflected off of a Reinhardt defender and into the net to bring the Bears within one with 27 minutes remaining (2-3). However, neither team was capable of scoring again the rest of regulation.
The Eagles outshot the Bears 13-6 throughout the first half but only recorded five more in the second half, in comparison to TMU's three.
Rodriguez, the team's leading scorer with 10 goals on the year, led with four shots, two on goal and Jacopo Borgalli and Cody Carnes added a shot on goal apiece. Senior Evan Gaffney tallied a total of seven saves on the day. Gaffney finished the season with a total of 85 saves, which ranks second in program history for most saves in a single season.
