Volleyball’s record-breaking season comes to an end in AAC semifinals

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Nov. 15, 2019) – After pulling off a huge upset against the No. 2 seed (Point University), the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball's record-breaking season came to an end in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals against No. 3 Milligan College (18-25, 20-25, 29-27, 15-25).

The Lady Bears finished the year with their first ever 18-win season (18-19, 12-9 AAC) and appeared in the AAC tournament semifinals for the first time ever.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
A couple of 4-0 scoring runs by Milligan gave them enough momentum to lead by as much as five. While the Lady Bears attempted to come in from behind on a 3-0 run with Milligan at point 24, the Buffs fastened their first win of the night on a kill (18-25). Similar to game one, the Buffs led the majority of the way. TMU went on another late run to win four straight points to get within four (19-23), but Milligan pulled away in the end (20-25).

Although the Buffs won eight straight points to lead by five (6-11), a 5-0 run by the Lady Bears tied it back up at 11-11 in the third set. From there, both teams went head to head. In fact, both were just a single point from winning the set but it was ultimately Audrey Henderson's kill that avoided the sweep in extra points (29-27). Milligan went on to record a 7-0 run in the beginning of the fourth set, and it was only up from there for the Buffs (15-25).

LEADERS
Abby Maxwell, an All-AAC first team select, recorded her third straight double-double of the tournament with 30 assists and 18 digs. Hannah Lee led with 21 digs and Anna Mumpower had 11, while Madison Curtis and Bethany Ross had 10 kills apiece. Henderson added eight. Maxwell, Curtis and Harris Anne Walker each had five block assists.
