CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 29, 2019) – Sophomore Enocka Franky led the Truett McConnell University men's basketball to victory with a double-double in their season opener against Toccoa Falls College inside the Benajmin F. Brady Arena on Tuesday night (71-68).

The Bears and Screaming Eagles traded the lead back and forth throughout all of regulation. TMU, however, pushed to lead by as many as 10 with two minutes to go in the first half, which is the largest lead any team possessed. JaDon Davis responded to a Toccoa 3-pointer with two buckets of his own and free throw, which put TMU up by 10 (38-28). After leading by five at the half (40-35), the final 20 minutes of regulation saw Toccoa outscore the Bears by two (31-33).
The strongest lead TMU held was by nine points and another Toccoa 3-pointer put the Screaming Eagles within two (56-54), but it was ultimately the Bears who came out on top. Leading by six with under a minute to go (70-64), Toccoa drained their 12th 3-pointer of the game to make it a one-possession game (70-67). The Screaming Eagles came within two points on a free throw with nine seconds remaining (70-68), Franky answered with a free throw of his own to lead again by three (71-68), but the Bears' defense did not allow another last second 3-pointer by the Screaming Eagles to secure their first win of the season.
LEADERS
Franky's career high and highly decorated stat line led the way; 24 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and one assist. The 6'7 sophomore went 9-for-13 from the field and 1-for-1 from behind the 3-point arc. Davis made his debut as a Bear adding 11 points and fellow incomer Marlon Allen added nine points. Antonio Bonilla also scored nine with three steals and six rebounds, and freshman Brent Kelly led with four assists.

TMU's Saturday (Nov. 2) game against Cincinnati Christian has been canceled. The Bears will pick back up on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 5:30 p.m., when they open up Appalachian Athletic Conference play against St. Andrews University inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena.
