Kendall leads, Lady Bears clinch AAC victory

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Jan. 19, 2019) – Sophomore Sierra Kendall led the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team to an Appalachian Athletic Conference win against Brenau University on Saturday afternoon inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena (60-58). The Lady Bears improved to 4-15, 3-13 AAC on the year while the Golden Tigers sunk to 5-13, 3-12 AAC.

Last time they met, Brenau defeated TMU on the road 60-48.

VIGOROUS START | CLUTCH ENDING

The Lady Bears came out ready to play earning the first nine points of the game and eventually outscored the Golden Tigers by eight (18-10). Brenau responded with an 8-0 run in the second quarter and outscored TMU 12-17 but the closest the Golden Tigers got to the Lady Bears was three points.

The third quarter was also won by the Lady Bears but it was a back and forth battle. TMU led by as many as six and as little as one. The momentum carried over into the fourth quarter for the Lady Bears as they secured their third AAC victory after holding off the Golden Tigers when they trailed by just two points with 10 seconds remaining.

COACH'S COMMENTS

"I feel like we came out ready to play from the start," Head Coach Tiek Fields. "Brenau went on two runs that we had to withstand and with a young team I felt like we handled that fairly well. It's always good to get a conference win so we'll celebrate this win for 24 hours and then come back Monday ready to prepare for Montreat."

LEADERS

Kendall's eighth double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds led the squad. Kendall currently ranks fourth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.4).

Freshman Re'Tavia Floyd followed with 13 points and three steals. Fellow freshman Nicole Bates added nine points while Camilla Howell and Quan Holton had six points apiece. Holton also rebounded eight while freshman Natalie Nixon was credited four assists.

The team compiled a total of 14 assists on the night.
