Women’s soccer win second AAC game straight

CLEVELAND, GA. (Sept. 12, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team defeated the reigning 2017 Appalachian Athletic Conference champions on Wednesday afternoon at the TMU Soccer Complex. The Lady Bears (4-1, 2-0 AAC) beat the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (1-4, 1-1 AAC) 3-1.

FIRST HALF SPLIT

Just two minutes into the first half, senior Carson Batye booted the ball into the top left corner of the net after a ball from the Bulldogs' defender who was trying to clear it. The Lady Bears took five more opportunities at the goal in comparison to Wesleyan's six before the Bulldogs connected for the tying goal with five minutes remaining in the first half (1-1).

SECOND HALF FEAT

Freshman Lydia Williams came off the bench with a spark in the second half. Williams struck the ball with her left foot out of the feet of Lauren Huston for the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute of the game. Though the Bulldogs continued to attack, TMU's Jessica Hale at the goal and the Lady Bears' backline refused to give up the lead. With a one-point cushion just five minutes after Williams' goal, sophomore Jennifer McCall dribbled through two Wesleyan defenders to find the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. (3-1)

The Bulldogs fought for three corner kicks in the final two minutes of the game looking for opportunities to score but it proved not enough as the Lady Bears fastened their second straight AAC victory.

NUMBERS

Huston, Bayte, J. McCall and Jessica Lanier all tallied two shots apiece. Sophomore Tori Wilson was credited the assist on McCall's goal. Hale earned three saves in comparison to Wesleyan's one.
