MARIETTA, Ga. (Sept. 1, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team wrapped up the Running Eagles Classic at day two on Saturday. The Lady Bears dropped the first match to Southeastern University (3-0) and lost the second match to Freed-Hardeman University (3-1).

SOUTHEASTERN (19-25, 13-25, 22-25)

The Lady Bears started out strong winning the first four points of the first set. Nonetheless, the Fire came in from behind. At 18 apiece, Southeastern got out front and maintained the lead all the way until a service ace that secured their first victory (19-25). The Fire took advantage of the momentum to push an early safe lead to put game two out of reach for the Lady Bears (13-25).

TMU rallied for the third set winning the first five points and compiled 13 kills in comparison to SEU's 15. Both teams were head to head all the way to 22 apiece but the Fire managed to put away the ball a few more times to fasten their sweep over TMU.

LEADERS

Jordan Henshaw led with six kills while Shayla Smith, Olivia Beasley and Bethany Ross each tallied four. Madison Curtis and Abby Maxwell added three apiece. Hannah Lee dug-out 18 and Maxwell was credited with 19 assists.

FREED-HARDEMAN (20-25, 27-25, 15-25, 20-25)

Despite the Lady Bears outkilling the Lions 11-9, Freed-Hardeman used a couple of 4-0 runs to take the first set 20-25. The Lions carried over the lead into the second game but TMU responded with power late but just in time. At 25 apiece, Ross blocked an attack and Ross followed with a kill out of the hands of Maxwell to take the second set 27-25.

Freed-Hardeman had a response of their own taking games three and four to secure their victory over TMU. TMU earned nine total team blocks in comparison to the Lions' six.

LEADERS

Harris Anne Walker and Ross led side by side with 10 kills while Smith directly followed with eight. Beasley added seven and Henshaw added six. Beasley and Curtis also led with four block assists. Lee led in the digs column with 14 and Maxwell compiled a total of 34 assists.
