MCKENZIE, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2018) – Behind a stellar defensive effort, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA top 25, earned their second win and second shutout of the season on the road against Life University (2-0) on Saturday night.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half exchanging possession pretty evenly. The Bears outshot the Running Eagles 4-3 but it wasn't until the final minute that TMU put themselves up on the scoreboard. Freshman Daniel Holt found junior Clancy Loudermilk's feet with 38 seconds remaining. Loudermilk scored a dink past the goalkeeper to ensure a lead at the half (1-0).
The Running Eagles came back out in the second half ready to fight. Life outshot the Bears 10-5 but it proved not enough as goalkeeper Evan Gaffney proved his grit compiling a total of seven saves in comparison to Life's three. Halfway through the second half at 25:56, Frederico Divino found Giovanni Giraudo 27 yards out from the goal. Giraudo fired the ball into the top corner of the net with his left foot to further fasten TMU's win over the Running Eagles (2-0).
LEADERS
Joao Costa led with five shots, two on goal. Divino and Victor Clemente also added a shot apiece.
UP NEXT
TMU will face Bethel University on Monday, Sept. 3, at 4 p.m. on the road and will return to the TMU Soccer Complex for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference match against Bluefield College at 2:30 p.m.
