MONTREAT, N.C. (Aug. 25, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team defeated NCAA DII West Virginia State University and Asbury University in game one of both matches but it proved not enough as the Lady Bears dropped the final two matches of the Volley in the Mountains on Saturday at Montreat College (3-1, 3-1).

WEST VIRGINIA STATE (25-23, 17-25, 18-25, 21-25)
The Lady Bears were prepared to attack early earning 14 kills in comparison to West Virginia's 12 in game one. Despite losing the match, the Bears tallied eight total team blocks in comparison to West Virginia State's eight.

Jordan Henshaw led TMU with 11 kills while
Shayla Smith followed closely with 10. Smith,
Madison Curtis and
Olivia Beasley all had four blocking assists.
Abby Maxwell tallied 36 assists.

ASBURY (26-24, 21-25, 15-25, 22-25)
Though the Eagles earned six of the last seven points of the first set, the Lady Bears came out on top (26-24). The Eagles rallied using a 10-0 run to claim game two and TMU was unable to bounce back in sets three and four.

Two Bears connected for double digit kills. Senior Smith and freshman
Bethany Ross each had 12 while junior
Harris Anne Walker earned seven. Maxwell was credited 35 assists. Three Bears were also in double digits in the digs column led by
Hannah Lee with 19 and
Anna Mumpower with 12.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears are back on the road Friday-Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, for the Running Eagles Classic at Life University in Marietta, Georgia. TMU will face Brewton-Parker College, whom the Bears have already defeated this season, on Friday at 2 p.m. and will face Johnson & Wales University at 6 p.m. On Saturday the Bears will play Southeastern University and Freed-Hardeman University at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
