Box Score CLEVELAND, Ga. (Aug. 18, 2018) – The Truett McConnell women's volleyball team set the tone for the 2018 season with a 3-0 sweep against Brewton-Parker College in their season home opener (25-21, 25-15, 25-15).
GAME BY GAME
Early in game one the Lady Bears gained all momentum with a 5-0 run and several 3-0 runs. Though the Barons responded with a 5-0 run themselves late in the game, the Lady Bears' defense pulled through and took game one 25-21.
After an immediate kill by senior Shayla Smith in the second game, the Lady Bears never trailed. Both teams battled it out tallying seven kills apiece. However, behind 41 rallies was TMU on top after the Bears' defense forced a Brewton-Parker error at the net (25-15). Similar to games one and two, TMU made an early run (7-0) which enabled the domination that took place in all categories. The Lady Bears outkilled the Barons 12-6 while also tallying four errors in comparison to Brewton's 10. Â
Game three ended on redshirt sophomore Jordan Henshaw putting the ball away cross court off a jump set by sophomore Abby Maxwell securing the Lady Bears first sweep and win of the season (25-15).
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Henshaw led the way with seven kills while Smith followed with six. Freshman Bethany Ross made her debut with three kills. Harris Anne Walker and Maxwell also added three kills apiece. Maxwell led with 17 assists.
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will return to the Bear Cave for a scrimmage against Bob Jones University on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 6:00 p.m. and then hit the road for the Volley in the Mountains at Montreat College where they will play four matches. The Bears are back in action at home on Friday, Sept. 14, against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe St. Andrews University.
