On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell bears travelled to Cumberland University and picked up two wins. The bears struck first scoring one run in the first. Junior
Kaitlynn Hay started the game off with a single up the middle. Freshman
Karli Loudermilk sacrificed bunted that advanced Hay to second. Senior
Milly Martinet moved Hay to third with a single up the middle. Senior
Reba Jones reached first on a fielder's choice that scored Hay. Cumberland would respond with a run in the bottom of the first. The score remained tied forcing an extra inning. Truett had to place a runner on second to start the inning because of the use of an international tie breaker rule. Senior
Reba Jones executed a sacrifice bunt to advance Freshman Katherine Kozlowski to third. Junior
Brie Levy hit a long foul ball to left field that allowed Kozlowski to tag and score the winning run. The bearsdefense would not allow Cumberland to score in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore
Bethany Hyde started the game for the bears and pitched just over three innings. She allowed the only run for Cumberland University.
Karley Hobbs came in for relief and recorded the win. She pitched just over four innings and did not allow a single hit. The bears won with a score of 2-1.
Game two was another close game for the bears. The bears' offense was only able to score in the second inning. The bears rallied on two outs starting with Senior
Sarah Horne hitting a single up the middle. Sophomore
Sara Sullivan drew a walk to now give the bears runners on first and second. Sophomore
Jaden Morrison singled up the middle to score Horne for the bears only run. The bears kept Cumberland scoreless with a solid defensive performance with no errors. Freshman
Karley Hobbs pitched the complete game only allowing two hits. The bears won with a score of 1-0.
