Bears face NCAA DI USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Dec. 19, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to the University of South Carolina Upstate, a NCAA DI program, for their third nonconference road game over the course of six days. The Bears fell to the Spartans (85-54) dropping to 6-6, 2-5 AAC on the year while USC Upstate won their fourth game of the year (4-8).

Though the Bears earned the first four points of the game with a 3-pointer and a free throw, TMU struggled to make their shots fall in the first 20 minutes of play shooting 30% from the field. It wasn't until the last four minutes of the first half when the Spartans securely maintained their double-digit lead.

Entering into the second half with an 18-point deficit (22-40), the Bears worked to get within 16 points of USC Upstate but that would be the closest game Truett saw.

Senior Christian Davis and Filipe Goncalves led the way. Davis put up 13 points while Goncalves followed with 12 points. Davis and Kai Lambert tallied three steals apiece. Freshman Enocka Franky added seven points. Sophomore Calvin White and Lambert earned five rebounds apiece.

Up next, TMU will be back on the road for one last time this semester on Saturday, Dec. 29, at Faulkner University. The Bears return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
