Bears fall at No. 9 Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 7, 2018) – Sophomore Myles Monroe recorded a double double of 20 points and 10 rebounds but the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team ultimately lost their first Appalachian Athletic Conference game at No. 9 Union College on Wednesday night, 69-52.

PLAY BY PLAY | BY THE NUMBERS

The Bears trailed by just five points with 3:51 left to go in the first half, however, the Bulldogs managed to finish on a 9-1 run to put TMU at a 15-point deficit (23-39). Nonetheless, the Bears came back out stronger in the second half to only be outscored by two points this time around (29-31). In fact, TMU outscored the Bulldogs in the paint 23-17 but the Bears trailed by as many as 22 points in the final 20 minutes of play.

TMU trailed by as little as 10 points with five minutes to go but the Bulldogs did not let up. Overall, TMU forced 26 turnovers and earned four more steals than the Bulldogs.

LEADERS

Following Monroe was Calvin White with 11 points, four rebounds and Filipe Goncalves with six points, eight rebounds and four assists. Christian Davis added five points, three assists and three steals.

COACH'S COMMENTS

"We didn't execute in any facet of the game this evening – offense, defense, situations, foul shooting, etc.," Head Coach Jon Yeh said. "So the outcome was exactly what we deserved."

UP NEXT

The Bears will be back at the Benjamin F. Brady Arena for another AAC showdown against Columbia International University at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 11.
