Shayla Smith led the Truett McConnell University to an Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep at Allen University on Friday evening (25-19, 25-23, 25-23). The Lady Bears improved to 8-13, 3-6 AAC while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 7-12, 2-7 AAC on the year.

The Lady Bears immediately came out ready to attack earning the first point on a kill and earning 14 kills in comparison to Allen's eight. TMU never trailed for a point and led by as much as seven (25-19). The second set saw a tighter race coming within one and two points of each other the last half. Nonetheless, the Lady Bears came out on top taking the second game on two kills by Smith and
Bethany Ross (25-23).

For the second time
Jordan Henshaw's kill got TMU started out on the right foot. Although, after 7-7 the Yellow Jackets went on a 4-0 run themselves to lead the Lady Bears for the first time all night. TMU was resilient, however, and went on a couple of 3-0 runs to get back out front for good. The Lady Bears took the last three points to fasten their AAC sweep over the Yellow Jackets (25-23).

Following Smith with 16 kills was Ross with 12 and
Olivia Beasley added six.
Abby Maxwell compiled a total of 24 assists.

TMU has a quick turnaround as they face Columbia College on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Lady Bears return home to the Bear Cave for two games in a row on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m., to face Bluefield College and Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m., to face St. Andrews University.
