Bears Beat Bethel 3-1

Cleveland, GA. | Bears Beat Bethel 3-1!
Saturday the Bears played host to the Wildcats of Bethel University in what looked to be a highly contested match between two quality teams. Both teams were carrying impressive resumes, each having multiple victories against ranked opponents this season.

The first half was very close with both teams having some chances at scoring. The Bears were able to rifle off five shots, but the Bethel GK was able to save all shots that were on goal. By the end of the half, neither team was able to score.

The majority of the excitement and all of the scoring occurred during the second half of the contest. Bethel got the scoring started with a goal in the forty-sixth minute, but this did not deter the Bears. Shortly after Bethel scored, the Bears began possessing the ball more and creating havoc for Bethel. Their persistence would pay off in the sixty-fifth minute with a goal from Joao Costa off of an assist from Felipe Nunez. But the Bears were not just looking for an equalizer; they were looking for a victory. TMU continued to create offensive chances and frustrate the Wildcats' defense, and this continual pursuit would lead to the Bears' second goal. The Bears were awarded a free kick which Costa took advantage of by delivering a dazzling strike just under the crossbar and inside the far post. Even though the Bears had now taken a 2-1 lead, their quest for more goals was not over. Felipe Nunez delivered a ball into the box off of a corner kick, and Raul Diaz put the ball in the back of the net, giving Nunez his second assist of the match, his team a two goal lead, and the contest its final score of 3-1.

"Great win for the program today," said Coach Rob Miller. "Before the game we spoke about mentality and positivity and the boys showed that out on the field. Every single player played their part, and it was a fantastic team performance." The Bears' next match will be on the road against Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday September 27th at 4 pm.
