Lady Bears Dominate Montreat with a 9-0 Win
The Lady Bears took on the Lady Cavaliers of Montreat College on Wednesday afternoon. This would be the second conference contest for both teams and each were coming off of victories in their previous conference matches.
It did not take long for the Lady Bears to set the tone of the match. They would begin their scoring onslaught in the sixth minute with a goal from Jennifer McCall off an assist from Megan McCall. Megan McCall would score TMU's next two goals, the first coming in the fourteenth minute and the second in the seventeenth. Jessica Lanier would join in the scoring in the twenty-fourth minute off another assist from McCall. Lauren Huston increased the lead to 5-0 in the twenty-seventh minute and Jordan Cornwell completed the scoring for the half with a goal of her own in the thirty-eighth minute. When halftime came, the Lady Bears found themselves up 6-0 without allowing their opponent to take even one shot attempt.
The second half did not see as much scoring, the Lady Bears still built on their lead. Both Lauren Huston and Jennifer McCall would finish the match with a brace. Huston scored her second goal in the forty-seventh minute with an assist from Vanda Rigotti, and Jennifer McCall would score in the seventy-fourth minute off of Megan McCall's third assist of the match. The contest's final goal would come from Megan McCall in the eighty-seventh minute, finishing her hat trick and giving the match a 9-0 final score.
Coach David McDowell continues to be exceedingly pleased with his team. "I know I speak on behalf of the coaching staff when I say we are really enjoying coaching this group of girls. Their attitudes are immense, their work ethic is excellent, and they are very coachable." The Lady Bears look to continue their winning ways against the Golden Tigers of Brenau University in Gainesville, GA Saturday September 23 at 7pm.
