CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell baseball team fell in both halves of its doubleheader against No. 6 Tennessee Wesleyan, losing 4-1 and 1-0 in two pitchers' duels.
Calob Rowland scored the Bears' lone run in the first game after stealing third and the catcher throwing the ball into left field. The Bears trailed 2-1 at the time. The Bulldogs scratched two more runs across, one in the fourth and one in the sixth, while the Bears couldn't get runners past second base for the remainder of the contest.
In game two, the Bears and Bulldogs were locked in a scoreless tie for the majority of the game. Starting pitcher Greg Elder Jr., had to work out of a couple of big jams, including a one-out bases loaded fifth inning that saw the Bulldogs pop out and strike out to end the inning scoreless.
The Bulldogs were able to get the lone run of the game in the sixth after loading the bases again by drawing a walk. The Bears had a great opportunity in the bottom of the seventh, however. With two outs, TMU had runners on second and third before a bang-bang play at first ended the game.
The Bears will next travel to No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett on Monday.
