CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell baseball team used a walkoff walk in the bottom of the ninth to win game one of the Appalachian Athletic Conference series against Montreat Friday afternoon, 5-4.
TMU took an early 2-0 lead through one inning of play after back-to-back singles to lead off the inning from
Calob Rowland and
Chris Carden. After a double steal,
Patrick Overstreet used a sacrifice fly to take the 1-0 lead.
Andrew Fogarty brought home the second run of the inning on a double down the left field line.
The Bears struck again in the third after loading the bases.
Davis Dasher hit a line drive right back up the middle, scoring
Michael Long to put TMU up, 3-0. The Bears loaded the bases again in the fifth and were able to bring home another run on a Rowland single, scoring
Austin Bishop to build a four-run lead.
Montreat responded with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 4-4. TMU got a runner to third in the eighth, but could not take advantage until the ninth inning when again loading the bases before Bishop drew a walk to end the game.
Rowland finished the game 2-for-5, while Carden had a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Davis Dasher was a perfect 3-for-3.
The Bears and Cavs will finish the series on Senior Day with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Cleveland.
