CLEVELAND | Junior
Milly Martinet broke a scoreless tie in the ninth inning of game two of an Appalachian Athletic Conference series against Bryan College to earn a split against the Lions with a solo bomb to center field. The Lions won game one, 4-1, before the 1-0 walkoff win.
In game one, the Lions got four unearned runs in the first two innings. TMU got the Bears' lone run on an
Olivia Darley double to left field to bring the game to its final score.
Game two was a true pitchers' duel as
Taylor Nix and Courtney Petty pitched out of multiple jams through the eighth inning. Nix was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth before Martinet went to work to lead off the bottom of the ninth.
After working a 3-0 count, Martinet fouled off three straight pitches down the left field line prior to the bomb to straight-away center field to walk off the game.
The Bears will now get ready for the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee. TMU will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will take on Union in the opening round. Game time is still to be determined.
