MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. | The Truett McConnell baseball team dropped Friday's game against Milligan but responded with a sweep of Saturday's doubleheader to claim the series over the Buffs. The Bears are now 17-5 overall and 2-1 in AAC play. The Bears fell 13-5 in Friday afternoon's contest before winning 6-0 and 6-4 on Saturday.
The Bears jumped out quickly in all three games, taking four or more run leads through the second inning in two contests and a two-run lead through three innings in the other.
Calob Rowland was the spark on the offensive side in the first half of the doubleheader Saturday as he hit a first-pitch bomb in the third inning to get the offense started for the Bears. In the fifth inning, he started a four-run rally by doubling to start the inning.
Greg Elder, Jr., also had an impressive outing, pitching a complete game four-hitter and striking out 14 in the process. The 14 strikeouts is a season-high for the sophomore and falls second on the single game high for the NAIA behind Ben Madison of Central Baptist (Ark.), who struck out 16 earlier this year.
TMU will turn around and play Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday in Cleveland. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
