CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell softball team earned a sweep of Hiwassee College Monday afternoon, winning game one 6-4 before run-ruling the Tigers 8-0 in five innings. The Bears improve to 16-7 with the win.
The Bears put up five runs in the third inning, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back singles from
Olivia Darley,
Milly Martinet and
Reba Jones that put the Bears up 3-0 at the time. TMU put the final run on the board for the home team in the bottom of the fourth off an
Olivia Darley double that scored
Sarah Horne and put TMU on top, 6-0.
Hiwassee gave the Bears a bit of a scare when they scored four runs in the top of the sixth, but
Carson Hagin came in relief of
Taylor Nix to earn the four-out save.
In game two, the Bears scored single runs in the first and second innings before exploding for six runs in the third. Martinet got the scoring going in the third with a two-run bomb that started the big rally for TMU. The Tigers would load the bases in the top of the fifth, but they could not get a run across the plate as the Bears earned the five-inning win.
TMU will next take on the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs in AAC play on Wednesday in Cleveland. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 2 p.m.
