Baseball's Comeback Falls Just Short in 5-4 Loss to Point

CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell baseball team had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 5-4, but could not bring the tying run across home plate as Point won the game by the 5-4 score. The Bears are now 20-10 on the year and 4-5 in AAC play.

TMU got on the board first in the bottom of the third as Patrick Overstreet singled to drive home the game's opening run. Point answered with two in the top half of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.

The Bears responded by tying the game in the bottom of the fourth when Evan Bensch hit a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Calob Rowland and making the score 2-2.

After two more Skyhawk runs in the top of the sixth, the Bears got one back in the bottom half on a Rowland single paired with a Point error.

Leading 4-3, the Skyhawks added another run in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, the Bears loaded the bases up after Rowland crossed home to make the score 5-4 on an error by the Point third baseman. TMU could not score a run in the inning and came up short in the ninth as well, allowing Point to earn a win in the series.

Chris Carden led the Bears at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance, while Rowland finished the day 2-for-3.

The Bears will hit the road on Tuesday to take on Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
