Bears Historic Season Ends in First Round of National Tournament

CLEVELAND, GA.|    The Bears traveled to Miami for their first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament after securing the school's first AAC title a little over a week ago. TMU faced the Bobcats of St. Thomas University, who were the champions of the Sun Conference. Unfortunately for the Bears, the match would not go their way. St. Thomas scored a goal in each half, while the Bears were kept scoreless for the match ending their season in a 2-0 defeat.

Though the season ended earlier than the Bears had hoped, the 2017 campaign was one that the TMU faithful will remember for a long time. The Bears posted program highs in wins (16), goals (65), goal differential (+36), and assists (49). The Bears also posted an undefeated record on their home pitch, which was another feat that had never been done in program history.

"Hard way to end a fantastic season. The two days worth of travel and playing in heat were many factors that we had to tackle when going up against a very good, mature St Thomas side," said Coach Rob Miller after the match. "We had our chances against them and unfortunately we just never took them." Miller went on to talk about the Bears' remarkable season. "We had a monumental season and the boys deserve all the credit they have been getting. We broke many program and school records this year! The highlight being winning the AAC championship!" Miller went on to comment about the group of seniors on the team. "They will be sorely missed by the program, but they have set a standard that this program is going to continue to strive for, which is winning championships."

The 2017 season for the TMU Men's Soccer Program has been truly remarkable, not only for the program, but for the school as well. Even though the season ended earlier than the Bears' had hoped, they seem ready and poised to build on the success seen in the 2017 season in the years to come.
