CLEVELAND, GA.|Â Â Â Â Lady Bears Finish Regular Season with 3-1 Win
Saturday was Senior Day for the Lady Bears as they hosted the Lady Knights from St. Andrews University. Before the game, seniors
Christina Charles,
Katey Griggs, and
Elise Lombard were recognized and thanked for the hard work and contributions to the program over the past four years, and the rest of the Lady Bears wanted nothing more than to cap the last regular season match for these fantastic seniors with a win.Â
The majority of the action took place in the first half. Even though it was the Lady Bears' Senior Day, St. Andrews came ready to play and their effort was rewarded with the game's first goal in the ninth minute. After a while, the Lady Bears started playing their own game and the goals were soon to follow. TMU's first goal came off a favorable bounce off a kick from midfield; the ball got past the St. Andrews' GK and
Jessica Lanier was able to put the ball in the back of the net. With the game now tied and momentum shifting towards TMU, the Lady Bears saw more and more opportunities to take the lead, and in the thirty-third minute they did just that.
Megan McCall crossed the ball into the box for
Jessica Lanier to head into the back of the net for her second goal, but the Lady Bears were not done scoring.
Susanna Peppers rifled off a beautiful shot from distance for a goal in the forty-fourth minute, giving TMU a 3-1 lead going into the break.Â
The Lady Bears continued their fine play into the second half. They were able to limit St. Andrews to only one shot that was wide of the goal. TMU was able to attempt nine shots in the second half, but none of them were able to extend the Lady Bears' lead and the game would end with the 3-1 score. "It's always a good thing when we get to celebrate our seniors with a win as they have given so much to the program," said Coach
David McDowell. "It was great to see the response from the team after going behind a goal. They showed great character and grit to get back in the game and take control. We've had a good season and hopefully we can take this momentum into the playoffs." The win on Saturday gave the Lady Bears' the fourth spot in the AAC standings. As the fourth seed, TMU will host the winner of Reinhardt vs. Montreat in a quarter-final match at home on Friday, November 3rd.
